Getting started

Proof ships with working defaults. Once it is active and you have a recent completed or processing order, popups start appearing on the storefront, configuration is optional.

  • WordPress 6.5 or newer
  • WooCommerce 8.0 or newer (HPOS and the Cart/Checkout blocks are both declared compatible)
  • PHP 8.1 or newer

Proof declares Requires Plugins: woocommerce. If WooCommerce is not active, Proof stays inactive and shows an admin notice rather than running.

  1. Install and activate WooCommerce.
  2. Install Proof from the plugin directory, or upload the proof folder to /wp-content/plugins/, or upload the zip from Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  3. Activate Proof on the Plugins screen.
  4. Open WooCommerce → Proof to pick a corner and adjust timing. The defaults are reasonable, so you can leave them as they are.

The settings page (WooCommerce → Proof) has three groups:

  • General, the Enable Proof master switch (on by default) and Screen corner (bottom-left, bottom-right, top-left, top-right).
  • What each popup shows, a static example of a live popup, plus the Fallback name used when an order has no first name.
  • Timing, Initial delay (default 5s), Display time (default 6s), and Interval between popups (default 12s).

There are no field toggles: a popup always shows the buyer’s first name (or fallback), and shows the billing city when the order has one. See Configuration for each setting’s range and option key.

  1. Make sure you have at least one order with status Completed or Processing, created within the last 30 days.
  2. Open any front-end page and wait out the initial delay (5 seconds by default).
  3. A popup should slide in from your chosen corner showing the first name, city and product, with a relative time like “2 hours ago”.
  4. Click the dismiss button (the × in the corner of the slip). The popup closes and no further popups appear for the rest of that page view; reload to resume.
  5. Confirm there is no layout shift, the popup is fixed to its corner and never pushes other content.

If no popup appears, check that you have a qualifying order in the 30-day window and that Enable Proof is on. Proof shows nothing, by design, when there are no safe notifications to display.

Each popup only ever shows the customer’s billing first name and billing city. Surnames, emails, full addresses and order numbers are never sent to the browser. All data comes from your own WooCommerce orders and stays on your site, Proof connects to no external service.
