Pasporto

Pasporto equips WooCommerce stores with the statutory Digital Product Passport (DPP) mandated by the European Union Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 - ESPR) and the EU Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542).

Under Article 14 of the ESPR, economic operators offering products for distance sale (online shops) must display the data carrier (QR code or digital link) and key sustainability information to consumers before the purchase is concluded.

Section titled “Statutory requirements and legal framework”
  1. Digital Product Passport (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, Articles 9-11):

    • Products falling under delegated acts (batteries, textiles, electronics, plastics, chemicals, steel) must carry a machine-readable DPP.
    • Consumers and recycling authorities must have access to authenticated product data regarding materials, repairability, and end-of-life handling.
  2. Pre-Purchase Ecommerce Disclosures (ESPR Article 14):

    • When selling online, the merchant must ensure the digital data carrier and mandatory passport parameters are accessible on the product page prior to order confirmation.
  3. Unique Product Identifier (ESPR Article 29):

    • Standardised identification via Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) or Unique Product Identifier (UPI) linking to the decentralized passport repository.
  4. Battery Passport (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Article 77):

    • Industrial and electric vehicle batteries, as well as light means of transport (LMT) batteries, must make carbon footprint, recycled content, and battery health metrics publicly queryable.
  • Frontend Passport Block & Tab: Displays the digital QR code / URI carrier, material composition breakdown, recycled content percentage, carbon footprint (GWP in kg CO2 equivalent), and circularity class (A-E).
  • Structured Data (JSON-LD): Emits Schema.org Product metadata including GTIN/UPI, material breakdown, and direct URI to the official product passport registry.
  • Product Hierarchy Support: Child variations automatically inherit passport properties from the parent product unless specific variations require distinct batch passports.
  • Accessible Scan Dialog: Customers on desktop can scan the QR code with a mobile camera; customers on mobile devices can tap directly to launch the digital passport viewer.

In WooCommerce under Product Data > Digital Product Passport:

  • Enable DPP for this product: Activates passport display on the product page.
  • Unique Product Identifier (UPI / GTIN): The official registered barcode or digital ID.
  • Passport URL / Registry Link: The canonical link to the manufacturer or EU registry passport.
  • Primary Material & Recycled Content (%): E.g. “Post-consumer recycled polymer, 65%”.
  • Carbon Footprint (GWP): Global Warming Potential measured in kg CO2e per functional unit.
  • Circularity Class: Official rating from A (highest circularity) to E.

Open WooCommerce > Settings > Pasporto DPP:

  • Display position: Place passport details in a dedicated product tab, directly below the short description, or after the add-to-cart form.
  • QR Code generation: Enable automatic client-side SVG rendering of the passport QR code.
  • Structured data integration: Inject ESPR-compliant JSON-LD into the HTML <head>.
  • pasporto/passport_data - Filters the raw passport data array before rendering.
  • pasporto/json_ld_schema - Extends the emitted Schema.org structured data.
  • pasporto/qr_code_size - Modifies the generated QR code dimensions.
