Garantio

Garantio displays the mandatory European Harmonised Notice on legal guarantees, renders commercial durability labels and repairability scores, and audits product marketing copy for prohibited environmental claims under Directive (EU) 2024/825 (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition).

From 27 September 2026, all European ecommerce stores selling goods to consumers must present clear, harmonised pre-contractual information on the statutory legal guarantee of conformity, as well as any voluntary producer durability guarantees lasting longer than two years. Additionally, uncertified generic green claims and carbon-offsetting claims are strictly prohibited under consumer protection law.

Garantio addresses three distinct requirements established under EU consumer law:

  1. Mandatory Harmonised Notice (Directive (EU) 2024/825, Article 1(1) and Article 22a(1)):

    • The trader must remind consumers of the existence of the statutory two-year legal guarantee of conformity before purchase.
    • The notice must be visually prominent and follow the harmonised format prescribed by the European Commission.

  2. Harmonised Label for Commercial Durability (Directive (EU) 2024/825, Article 22a(2)):

    • When a producer provides a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years at no additional cost covering the entire good, the trader must display the Harmonised Label indicating the exact duration and producer identity.

  3. Green Claims and Anti-Greenwashing Audit (Directive 2005/29/EC Annex I, points 4a and 4b):

    • Point 4a bans making generic environmental claims (“environmentally friendly”, “eco-friendly”, “green”, “carbon neutral”) without recognised excellent environmental performance or official EU Ecolabel certification.
    • Point 4b bans claims that a product has a neutral, reduced, or positive environmental impact based on greenhouse gas emissions offsetting.

  4. Repairability Information (Directive (EU) 2024/1799, Article 17):

    • Pre-purchase availability of repair services, spare parts, and statutory repairability indices (such as the French Indice de Reparabilite).

  • Harmonised Notice Display: Renders the statutory guarantee notice on single product pages (below product summary or in a dedicated “Guarantee & Compliance” tab).
  • Producer Durability Badge: Highlights voluntary manufacturer guarantees exceeding 24 months, with producer name and duration clearly stated.
  • Repairability Index Badge: Displays a 1-10 repairability score on qualifying electrical, electronic, and mechanical products.
  • Active Green Claims Auditor: An in-editor audit panel checks product title, short description, and full description for banned words (e.g., “climate neutral”, “eco friendly”, “100% green”, “net zero”) and warns merchants before publishing uncertified claims.
  • Multilingual Templates: Ready-to-use harmonised notice templates in English, Polish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Romanian.

Product configuration

In the WooCommerce product editor under Product Data > Guarantee & ECGT:

  • Display Harmonised Notice: Check to show the statutory 2-year guarantee notice (recommended for all consumer goods).
  • Commercial Durability Guarantee (Years): Set to 3, 5, 10, or more if the producer provides an extended guarantee at no extra charge.
  • Producer Name: Name of the manufacturing company offering the commercial durability guarantee.
  • Repairability Score (1-10): Score based on official repairability criteria (spare parts availability, disassembly ease, documentation).

Store settings

Open WooCommerce > Settings > Garantio:

  • Notice placement: Select whether to inject the notice below the Add to Cart button, before tabs, or as a tab.
  • Accent styling: Choose between high-contrast statutory style or neutral store integration.
  • Green claims auditor sensitivity: Enable live warnings in the block editor and classic editor for potentially misleading claims.
