Tipping
Tips and donations right at checkout
Tipping adds an optional tip or donation control to the WooCommerce checkout. Shoppers pick a preset amount, a flat figure or a percentage of the cart, and the tip is added to the total as a fee.

Accepting a tip is often awkward
A café, charity or creator wants a simple, opt-in way for customers to add something extra. Without a dedicated control, a tip needs a fake cart product or a manual adjustment, and totals do not update live.
- ✗ No simple, opt-in tip control at checkout
- ✗ Tips as a fake cart product instead of a fee
- ✗ Totals that do not update when an amount is picked
- ✗ No percentage tip calculated from the cart
Tipping adds a tip as a native fee
- ✓ Preset amounts, flat or a percentage of the cart
- ✓ A native WooCommerce fee shown in totals, emails and reports
- ✓ Live total updates via checkout AJAX
- ✓ Opt-in by default, starts on "No tip"

Frequently asked questions
Does it require WooCommerce?
Yes. WooCommerce must be installed and active for Tipping to work. The tip control relies on WooCommerce's cart, fees and totals. Without active WooCommerce the plugin renders nothing.
Are tips taxed?
No. Tips and donations are added as a non-taxable WooCommerce fee, the plugin has no tax-on-tips setting.
How does a percentage tip work?
A percentage preset is calculated from the cart subtotal at the moment of selection. It is recalculated on every cart change via WooCommerce checkout AJAX, so the amount always reflects the current order. For example, a preset of 10 adds 10% of the current subtotal.
Where is the tip stored?
The tip is added to the order as a standard WooCommerce fee, so it appears in the order totals, emails and reports. The amount is also saved as the `_tipping_amount` order meta for auditing. This makes the tip as visible and traceable as any other fee.
Is tipping optional for customers?
Yes. The default selection is "No tip", so the control is fully opt-in. The customer chooses one of the presets, and no tip is added until they do. Any invalid or disabled choice falls back to "No tip".
Does Tipping pair with Rapid and Minimum?
Yes. Rapid speeds up placing large orders, and Minimum enforces quantity and cart-total rules. All three plugins are from wppoland.com and work independently of each other. You can use Tipping on its own or combine them freely.
How does Tipping compare to Tipping for WooCommerce and Tip Pro for WooCommerce?
Tipping adds preset checkout tips through the native WooCommerce fee API for free, with tip goals, splitting, and reporting in Pro from €29/yr. Tipping for WooCommerce and Tip Pro for WooCommerce are both paid extensions on the WooCommerce marketplace. Pricing as of June 2026.
