Frequently asked questions

Which rates are set by default?

A product carries one of four containers: single-use plastic bottle, metal can, single-use glass bottle or reusable glass bottle. Poland: 0.50 PLN for a plastic bottle up to 3 l and a can up to 1 l, 1.00 PLN for a reusable glass bottle up to 1.5 l; single-use glass is not covered. Romania: 0.50 RON for a single-use plastic bottle, a can and a single-use glass bottle; reusable glass is not covered. Austria: 0.25 EUR for a plastic bottle and a can; glass is not covered. Germany: 0.25 EUR for a single-use plastic bottle, a can and a single-use glass bottle, and 0.15 EUR for a reusable glass bottle as trade practice, not statutory. Slovakia: the statutory minimums of 0.12 EUR for a plastic bottle and 0.10 EUR for a can, enter the administrator's current rate; glass is not covered. Hungary: 50 HUF for a single-use plastic bottle, a can and a single-use glass bottle; the reusable glass fee starts at 0 because the producer sets it. A scheme charges nothing for a container it does not cover. You can change every rate in the settings.

Which provisions are the rates based on?

Poland: Dz.U. 2024 poz. 1046, § 1, with the packaging types of załącznik nr 1a to the packaging act. Romania: HG 1074/2021, art. 12 alin. (5). Austria: BGBl. II Nr. 283/2023, § 4 Abs. 1. Germany: § 46 Abs. 1 VerpackDG. Slovakia: 347/2019 Z. z., § 2, with the actual rate set by the administrator under 302/2019 Z. z., § 7 ods. 1 písm. g). Hungary: 450/2023. (X. 4.) Korm. rendelet, 3. § (1). The documentation lists every provision. The defaults are a starting point; check them before you start selling.

Is the deposit subject to VAT?

Germany's § 46 Abs. 1 VerpackDG states the deposit including VAT, so Botelix adds the net share in the product's tax class and the customer pays exactly the rate. Poland (VAT act art. 29a ust. 11a), Romania (Codul fiscal, art. 315^5 alin. (2)) and Slovakia (222/2004 Z. z., § 22 ods. 3) keep the deposit out of the VAT base, and Botelix adds it untaxed. Austria and Hungary are added untaxed too. The botelix_scheme_taxable filter changes any scheme.

How does the deposit work for a multi-pack?

Set the container count on the product, for example 6 for a six-pack or 24 for a crate. The deposit for one container is multiplied by that count and by the cart quantity.

Does Botelix convert currencies?

No. A scheme is charged only when its currency equals the store currency: a PLN store charges nothing for an order shipped to Germany, a EUR store charges the German, Austrian or Slovak rate. The settings screen lists the schemes your store cannot charge. The custom scheme uses the store currency.

Does it handle deposit refunds?

No. Botelix charges the deposit at purchase. It does not record returned packaging or pay deposits back; a refund goes through the normal WooCommerce refund.

Does it work with Cart and Checkout Blocks?

Yes. The deposit is a fee added through the native WooCommerce fees API, and the plugin declares compatibility with Cart and Checkout Blocks and HPOS.

Where does the deposit notice show?

On the single product page, under the price, on classic and block themes. It does not show in shop or category listings.

Are the plugins open source and GPL-licensed?

Yes. Every plugin, free and PRO, is licensed under the GPL. You are free to use, modify and self-host the code on your own sites, and a PRO purchase does not restrict those GPL freedoms. A PRO licence adds automatic updates and product support, not different rights to the code.

Can I try it before buying?

Yes. The free edition is a complete product on WordPress.org, not a time-limited trial, so you can run it indefinitely. It covers the core use case in full, and you upgrade to PRO only when your store needs the advanced features. There is no account or card required to use the free edition.

On how many sites can I use a PRO licence?

Each plan covers a set number of sites: a single site, five sites, or unlimited sites. The licence is tied to your account and determines how many sites receive automatic updates and support. If your store grows beyond your plan, you can upgrade to a larger site count at any time.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes. PRO purchases include a 14-day money-back guarantee unless a product page states otherwise. If the plugin is not the right fit, request a refund within 14 days through Freemius support or [email protected]. Refunds are returned to your original payment method.

Who handles payment, invoices and VAT?

Checkout is handled by Freemius, our Merchant of Record. Freemius processes the payment, applies the correct VAT for your country, issues the invoice, and manages renewals. If you have a valid EU VAT ID, you can enter it at checkout to apply the reverse-charge exemption.

Do subscriptions renew automatically?

PRO licences are annual and renew automatically while auto-renewal is enabled, so your updates and support continue without interruption. You can cancel future renewals at any time from your Freemius account before the renewal date. Cancelling stops future charges while your current term stays active until it ends.

What does support include, and how fast is it?

An active PRO licence includes email support for installation, configuration and defects in our own plugins, on a best-effort basis with no guaranteed response time. Support does not cover custom development, theme customisation, or conflicts caused by third-party plugins. For the free edition, community help is available through WordPress.org and GitHub.

Should I test the plugin before using it on a live store?

Yes. We recommend installing and fully testing any plugin on a local copy or a staging environment identical to production, with a current backup, before activating it on a live store. This lets you confirm compatibility with your theme and other plugins without risking your production site. Installing directly on production is at your own risk.
