Elektilo

The shopper does not know what to pick, so ask them

On a wide catalogue a shopper often cannot name the right product, and a row of filters does not fix that, because filters assume they already know what they are looking for. Elektilo asks a few plain questions and ends on one recommendation: an image, a price and a button to the product page.

Filters help the shopper who already knows the answer

A size and colour filter assumes the shopper knows what they want. Someone arriving for the first time usually does not, so they open a dozen product pages and leave without buying.

  • ✗ A wide catalogue reads as work to do rather than as help
  • ✗ A comparison table only starts working once the shopper has narrowed it down themselves
  • ✗ Advice over email and chat does not scale and only runs during office hours
  • ✗ Statistical recommendation plugins surface what is popular, not what fits

Elektilo asks instead of filtering

  • ✓ A few single-choice questions, one per step, with a progress bar and a Back button
  • ✓ You map every answer path to a specific product, so the recommendation is your decision rather than an algorithm's
  • ✓ The result card reads price and availability live, so it never recommends something you do not have
  • ✓ The result is a link: a fully answered URL opens straight on the recommendation

What you get in the free version

The whole quiz, no account needed. Steps and options are not capped, but each option multiplies the combinations you map.

A step-by-step quiz

Every step is one question with single-choice options. A progress bar shows how much is left, and a Back button lets the shopper change an answer.

One recommendation at the end

The shopper sees a single product: its image, an optional price, your own headline, a description and a button to the product page.

The combination map

A generate button creates one row per answer path from your steps, and you pick the product for each row. Picks you have already made are kept when you generate the rows again.

A missing-rows counter

The settings screen tells you how many combinations still have no product, so you do not switch the quiz on with holes in it.

A fallback product

Shown when no combination matches, or when the mapped product is unavailable. Without one the quiz would end on nothing.

Live price and availability

The recommendation is fetched from a light REST endpoint every time the quiz is completed, not from the page cache, so price and stock are current.

No jQuery

The plugin's own front-end script is plain JavaScript, loaded in the footer with defer.

No layout shift

Space is reserved for each step and for the result card, so advancing never moves the page. The recommendation image is prioritised for loading.

Keyboard operable

Real radio groups, visible focus, a Back button and a progress bar that screen readers announce.

Resumable and shareable

The current step and the answers live in the page URL and in per-tab browser storage, so a refresh keeps the shopper's place and a finished link opens straight on the result.

Assets only where they are used

The CSS and JavaScript load only on pages that contain the shortcode, not across the whole shop.

Accent colour

The progress bar, the selected option and the main button take their colour from the settings, so the quiz matches your brand without writing CSS.

Up and running in three steps

Write the questions, pick the products, paste the shortcode.

01

Install

Activate Elektilo alongside WooCommerce. The quiz starts switched off.

02

Build the steps and the map

In the Elektilo menu write your questions and options, generate the combinations and pick a product for each. A counter shows how many are left.

03

Put it on a page

Add the [elektilo] shortcode to any page or post and switch the quiz on.

Who it is for

Anywhere the choice needs knowledge the shopper does not have.

One complicated decision

Bikes, running shoes, mattresses, power tools: bought rarely, and the differences between models mean nothing to a newcomer.

  • ✓ Two or three questions
  • ✓ One recommendation
  • ✓ No spec sheets

A wide catalogue

Several hundred products in one category is noise to a buyer. The quiz narrows it to a single item.

  • ✓ Instead of filters
  • ✓ Guided selling
  • ✓ A shorter path

Products matched to a need

Cosmetics, pet food, supplements, fertiliser: the same question a shop assistant would ask across a counter.

  • ✓ Your own questions
  • ✓ Manually mapped picks
  • ✓ A fallback product

What PRO adds, and why it matters

Multiple quizzes

Create as many quizzes as you need under Elektilo > Quizzes. Each one has its own shortcode [elektilo_quiz id="..."] and an Elektilo quiz block. The free [elektilo] quiz keeps working next to them.

Multiple-choice questions

For every question you choose whether the shopper picks one answer or several.

Points per answer

In the points table each answer gives points to a product or to a whole category. The products with the highest total win, negative points push a product down, and ties keep the order of the table.

1 to 12 products in the result

Set how many of the best products to show. Out-of-stock or hidden products are skipped and the next one takes their place. A fallback product covers answers that score nothing.

Email step with consent

An optional step before the result. A lead is saved only when the consent box is ticked, together with the consent text and the answers. The step can be required or skippable, and logged-in customers can skip it.

Leads in your own database

An Elektilo > Leads screen with a quiz filter, CSV export, a link to the customer account, and WordPress personal data export and erasure. Nothing is sent to any outside service.

Quiz statistics

Starts, completions, completion rate, drop-off per step, answer distribution, emails left, and clicks and add-to-cart clicks on the result, over 7, 30, 90 or 365 days. Anonymous daily counts only.

Rate limits

The public quiz endpoints check every answer against its quiz and are rate limited per visitor, adjustable with the elektilo-pro/rate_limit filter.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions can I ask?

As many steps as you like, with as many options per step as you like. Bear in mind that the number of combinations to fill in is the product of the options across all steps, which is why two or three short steps are the practical sweet spot.

Does an algorithm choose the recommendation?

No. You map every answer path to a product by hand, so the result is your decision. The plugin calculates nothing and guesses nothing.

What does the shopper see when the recommended product sells out?

The fallback product from the settings. The result card checks on every completion that the product is purchasable and in stock.

Does it require WooCommerce?

Yes. The recommendation is a WooCommerce product, with its price, image and permalink.

Does it send anything anywhere?

No. The only request goes to your own site's /wp-json/ address and returns the recommendation. No external service, no account.

Can a shopper come back to the quiz?

Yes. The step and the answers are stored in the page URL and in per-tab browser storage, so a refresh keeps their place and a finished link opens straight on the result.
